How has organised crime changed throughout the 20th century?
Organised crime spiked hugely at the prohibition of alcohol. As different things became illegal, gangsters were able to manipulate the situation to benifit themselves. This was obvious when prohibition was instated in 1920. As time went on the law changed, and gangsters found a new market oppurtunity, drugs. The gangsters main buisness changed from alcohol to drugs as the law changed, and will probably change again if drugs are made legal today. Where things are illegal, there is a chance for people to get it through organised crime. Organised crime went from a small scale buisness full of mysteries to a full blown surge of alcohol and drugs sales (along with murders and violent robberies) through a few simple law changes and time going on.
